Sindh govt distances itself from arrest of Captain Safdar

KARACHI: Education Minister Saeed Ghani has denied the involvement of the Sindh government in the sudden arrest of Captain Safdar on charges of sloganeering at the shrine of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi.

Taking to Twitter on Monday morning, Saeed Ghani said that the manner in which Karachi police made the arrest of Captain Safdar was reprehensible.

“Captain Safdar was not arrested on the instructions of the Sindh government. This move by the police is part of a conspiracy to create a rift among PDM parties which we will thwart,” Ghani added.

The minister, however, deplored Captain Safdar’s decision to chant slogans at the mausoleum.

“What Captain Safdar did at Mazar-e-Quaid was inappropriate,” he opined.

Captain Safdar was detained from his hotel room in the wee hours of Monday after a police complaint.

He was seen chanting “Vote ko izzat do” slogans at the shrine in the presence of Maryam Nawaz and other PML-N leaders who paid respect at the shrine before heading to the Jinnah Ground to join the PDM jalsa.

The move angered pro-government netizens and a section of media who called for action against the son in law of former premier Nawaz Sharif.
