Shahbaz Sharif furious over AJK elections defeat, threatens to quit PML-N presidency: report

A news report in the Daily Jang says former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif is infuriated that his electoral strategy for the recently-held Azad Kashmir polls was ignored and as a result, has threatened to step down from the post of the PML-N president.

After being in power in Azad Kashmir for the past five years, the PML-N managed to win only a disappointing six seats out of the total 45. The PTI, on the other hand, were able to win a simple majority while the PPP came in at number two by winning 11 seats.

The PML-N’s electiion campaign was led by PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, who attracted large crowds wherever she went.

Shehbaz Sharif is extremely angry over his political strategy being ignored and has threatened to quit the party presidentship, the Daily Jang report said.

Sources within PML-N, however, have not rejected or confirmed the report, but political insiders have said that Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz has reportedly stopped his father from stepping down.

As per the report, Hamza Shahbaz has covinced Shahbaz Sharif that he would take up the matter with former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.

The report said that Maryam Nawaz, meanwhile, will remain inactive in politics for one year.
