AI-generated images of Sonakshi Sinha in burqa go viral

Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha recently tied the knot with Zaheer Iqbal in an interfaith marriage in 2024, sparking significant buzz on social media.

A set of images showing Sonakshi in a burqa and wearing an ihram is being widely shared online. Another picture shows the actress with her husband with the Holy Kaabah in the background.

Right-wing Hindutva activists shared the pictures as evidence that the actress has converted to Islam and performed the Umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

The image has been shared with a caption: “Sonakshi Sinha used to post very few photos earlier, but ever since she married Zaheer Iqbal, she has been igniting reactions and posting pictures daily. Today, she shared a photo in a burqa with Zaheer Iqbal.”

The viral pictures also seem to have been taken from inside a flight. However, it can be easily examined that the images have been created with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).

There were no media reports of the viral images and even Sonakshi Sinha or Zaheer’s official social media handles have not carried any image.

Interestingly, one of the viral posts carried a watermark labelled ‘Grok’, which is an AI image generator owned by X, formerly Twitter.
