Former Pakistan cricket captain Mohammad Hafeez said on Thursday that the team would bounce back from its dismal performance to put a strong showing against South Africa.
Speaking to media at the net practice in London, Hafeez said that the team had not played well in the past five games of the World Cup.
“We know we haven’t played well,” he said. “However, we have all seen that Pakistan has always bounced back from setbacks,” he added.
The all-rounder said that Pakistan were looking to win the next match against South Africa and the team were not concerned about the upcoming matches.
“We are not concerned about the four upcoming matches,” he said. “We are just looking at the next match. We need to win the next match and the next match and the next,” he added.
Hafeez said that the break had allowed the green shirts to analyze their mistakes. He said that as a teammate he was here to boost the confidence of his teammates.
After a batting collapse against the West Indies, Pakistan put up a strong showing against England. The cricket team’s match against Sri Lanka was washed out and its poor fielding and dismal batting cost it the match against Australia.
Against India, Pakistan were unable to put up a strong bowling performing or field properly. A batting collapse ensured that India won the match comfortably against the green shirts.
Pakistan cricket team captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was criticised for bowling first against India when he had won the toss. He was also slammed for his disappointed body language and was criticised for not attacking the opposition.
Pakistan face South Africa on Sunday, June 23.
