Punjab overtakes Sindh in number of coronavirus cases

ISLAMABAD: The number of people infected by the coronavirus disease in Pakistan jumped to 1415 with Punjab overtaking Sindh in the number of confirmed cases.

According to latest statistics, there are currently 490 confirmed coronavirus patients in Punjab, 457 in Sindh, 180 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 133 in Balochistan, 107 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 39 in Islamabad and two in Azad Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health figures show that 725 patients remain under treatment, 11 patients died, 26 were discharged after recovering. This means that hundreds of patients have been sent home for self-isolation.

Pakistan also reported its 12th death from coronavirus – the 5th in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – a woman in Lower Dir who had recently returned from Saudi Arabia where she had gone to perform Umra.

In Sindh, police have sealed the Hyderabad headquarters of the Tableeghi Jamaat after one of its members tested positive for coronavirus.

Karachi police have registered 88 FIRs & detained 38 prayer leaders & mosque staff members for violating the Sindh govt’s restrictions on congregational prayers Among those booked were mosque staff of the New Memon Masjid in Bolton Market and Baitul Salam Masjid in DHA.
