Apple has increased the production of iPhones in India to 7% from 1% in 2021. As per the Bloomberg news report, the company has assembled iPhones worth over $7 billion in India in the last fiscal year. This move by Apple is made to diversify their supply chain and reduce their reliance on China.
Apple manufactures iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 in India. In addition to this, it was recently revealed that it will also manufacture AirPods in the country.
Apple is looking to penetrate the Indian market for increased sales and is taking effective measures for it. The company faces competition from brands such as Samsung and Xiaomi. Apple is looking to invest in India by opening a new retail store in Mumbai followed by a store in Delhi, set up a manufacturing plant in the country and launching new products. It was also reported that Apple aims to start producing about 25% of iPhones in India by 2025.
It is believed that for the launch of the retail store, Apple CEO Tim Cook will visit India and even meet PM Narendra Modi.
With this development, India has become the fastest growing smartphone market in the world.
