KARACHI: Funeral prayers of two army men who had embraced martyrdom at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border yesterday, were offered in Karachi and Kotli, on Saturday.
According to a statement by the ISPR, funeral prayers of Major Adeel Shahid and Sepoy Faraz Hussain were offered. The two martyrs were laid to rest with full military honours.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Corps Commander Karachi and the general public offered the funeral prayers of the two military men. The funeral event was also attended by serving and retired military officers as well as the general public.
Terrorists had planted an improvised electronic device (IED) which exploded and caused the martyrdom of the major and the sepoy. The two army officials were inspecting the fencing on the western border when the explosion occurred.
“Squad under shaheed officer was supervising fencing work in an area which carried critical infiltration route [used by terrorists from Afghanistan],” tweeted the ISPR.
According to a report in The Express Tribune, the attack took place in Manzari Cheena village of Tehsil Baizai in district Mohmand near Gorsal border post.
“The security convoy was traveling to Gorsal Gate for security checking and also to witness the activities at the Pakistan-Afghan border when their vehicles were hit by the IED at around 10:30 am,” a source was quoted as saying. “The blast had also damaged nearby buildings.”
The injured were shifted to the CMH hospital where they breathed their last.
Last week, four Pakistan Army soldiers were also martyred in two separate attacks in areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa bordering Afghanistan.
