Arshad Naeem determined to win 2024 Olympics

Javelin throw finalist Arshad Nadeem, the star of Pakistan thanked the nation for the support in Olympics 2020. He stated that he had learned a lot from his experience and urged that he would win a medal for the country in the Paris Olympics, 2024.

In an interview with The News, Arshad Nadeem stated, “In sports, it happens, I tried my level best and knew that the whole nation was supporting me back at home, I made a huge effort but couldn’t live up to the expectations.”

Arshad Naeem, with a throw of 84.62 meters, ended at the fifth position in the Javelin throw finals of the Tokyo Olympics, 2020.

Arshad who was a bronze medalist in the Asian Games stated that his body did not respond properly, and it disappointed him. He further stated that he was pressurized by the feeling that the whole nation was supporting him.

He gave two reasons for losing the finals, “there were two major reasons for my bad performance in the finals, one was that it was too hot and the other was that my body did not respond properly, and this is the first time it ever happened in my career”.

Arshad mentioned, “the world championship is next year and the Asian Games along with other events are coming up, I will pull off the desired performances, it was my first Olympics and while others were from the developed countries, I wasn’t”.

“I come from a village with no facilities at all. I am trying to get back up and I promise I will work harder and put more effort in future to win a big title for the country”, Arshad stated.

When asked about his delayed throw, he stated that he did not realize it was his turn to throw the javelin. He stated that the whole time he was thinking about not disappointing his country.

“When I threw I did know that I had lost my goal and that I wasn’t in my senses and was deeply saddened by this”, Arshad said.

India’s Neeraj Chopra, the gold medalist who swept it with an 87.58-meter throw, met Arshad during the closing ceremony and said that it was Arshad’s bad luck that he couldn’t manage a good throw in the finals.
