KARACHI: PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has confirmed that IG Sindh police was kidnapped and coerced into arresting PML-N leader Captain Safdar from his hotel room in Karachi.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Bilawal Bhutto urged Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Bajwa and ISI Chief to investigate as who had taken IGP from his home in the wee hours of Monday.
Bilawal also condemned what happened with Maryam Nawaz and Safdar. “I am so ashamed that this happened under our watch. Such a toofaan was created over a few slogans at the shrine of Muhammad Ali Jinnah.”
“The arrest was an insult to a guest to the province and to the PDM jalsa. Sindh police is an institution that we want to function independently. But it doesn’t mean we will tolerate interference by any other quarters,” he said.
The PPP chief said all police officials were asking who was it that took the IG away from his home at 4am.
“I ask DG ISI, Gen Bajwa to please look into their institution and see who is advising it to do this. It damages the integrity of the institution,” he added.
