Chief Justice orders arrest of mob involved in temple attack
ISLAMABAD: Gulzar Ahmed, Chief Justice questioned the Punjab Police Chief for not being able to safeguard the Hindu Temple from a mob attack in Rahim Yar Khan, and has asked to arrest the culprits.
The Chief Justice has taken notice of the mob attack on a temple in the Bhong village, after a meeting with Ramesh Kumar, MNA, and Patron-in-chief Pakistan Hindu Council.
More than a dozen armed with sticks and other weapons vandalized a temple in Rahim Yar Khan, shouting slogans and destroying idols in the worship area. The clip of the incident went viral, which got back clash from social rights activists in Pakistan.
The Chief Justice has shown concern over this incident and summoned the chief secretary Punjab and IGP Punjab to appear in the court and submit a report. The Chief Justice expressed how displeased he was on the incident and further added saying that the attack had done serious damage to the country’s reputation around the world.
He questioned the police and administration and called them silent spectators while the mob vandalized the temple.
In answer to this, IGP Inam Ghani said that the assistant commissioner and ASP were present at the spot and the priority was to provide security to the 70 Hindu families residing nearby.
