RAWALPINDI: Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and the police conducted a joint operation on Thursday and foiled an attempt to attack on the Adiala Central Jail.
Police officials also recovered heavy weapons and ammunition from the apprehended terrorists, who have been shifted to undisclosed locations.
Rawalpindi police said spokesperson said that the police and CTD thwarted an attempt to attack central jail and arrested three terrorists who belonged to Afghanistan.
CPO Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Hamdani said that automatic heavy weapons and ammunition were among the items recovered. Police also seized hand grenades, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and maps of the jail from their possession.
The police officer said that the police, along with other law enforcement agencies, are conducting a search operation in and around the jail.
It must be noted Central Jail Adiala is currently overcrowded and housing prisoners twice its capacity. Among its notable inmates are former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and former CM Punjab Pervaiz Elahi.
