Dengue claims three lives in Punjab

Amid a constant decline in coronavirus cases, the dengue virus has now taken over Punjab with the case toll rising to 50 and the virus has already claimed three lives.

The deaths were reported from Gujranwala, Vehari, and Faislabad, stated by the Punjab Health Department.

One of the dead, a 21-year-old woman is a resident of Europe.

The highest numbers of Dengue virus cases have been reported from Bahawalpur, 17, 9 in Lahore, and 6 in Kasur. Last week, Punjab had recorded 44 cases, which was an alarming situation and the authorities were asked to take all sorts of emergency measures needed.

In a strategy to control the disease, the health department has directed authorities to make intensive-care units in hospitals operational and hire 10,929 health workers on a contractual basis to stop the spread of the Dengue virus.

The Sunday weekly holiday of health workers working in the anti-dengue campaign had been canceled.

In March, the Ministry of Health confirmed that the first case of dengue was reported from Fauji Foundation Hospital Rawalpindi.

Officials from the government department said they had initiated measures to control dengue in a timely manner. During the month, more than 14,000 homes had been monitored for the dengue virus.

Dengue is transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, for which irregular rainfalls and tropical climates create an ideal breeding ground.
