Ex-army chief Bajwa hospitalised after suffering head injury in fall

Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) after sustaining injuries from a fall at his residence.

The military’s press wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the incident and issued a brief health update that  Gen (retd) Bajwa was currently receiving medical treatment at CMH.

A day earlier, local media reported citing family sources that Bajwa was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after sustaining a head injury. It added Bajwa fell in the bathroom of his house at around 4:30am on Tuesday, sustaining head injuries and is currently under treatment in the ICU.

In a video message released on social media, the former army chief’s brother-in-law, Naeem Ghumman, said Bajwa was “barefoot when he slipped and suffered a head injury”.

He added that nothing “suspicious came up” following his medical examination, and all necessary tests were conducted. Ghumman stated that the former army chief is “100 per cent out of danger”.

General (retd) Qamar Bajwa served as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) from 2016 to 2022 and retired from office on November 29, 2022.
