ISLAMABAD: Federal Science Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Monday that Sindh police were right to arrest Captain Safdar for chanting slogans at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Taking to Twitter, Chaudhry wrote: “The arrest of Captain Safdar by Sindh Police is a narrative of respect for the law. The grave Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and his mausoleum are not a playground of despicable political leadership. It is a sacred place for Pakistanis. Irresponsible and unruly behavior at Mazar-e-Quaid is against the law and should be punished.”
His tweet came shortly after the Sindh police broke into Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s hotel room in Karachi and detained her husband Capt Safdar.
The PML-N leader was heard chanting slogans of “Vote Ko Izzat Do” and “Maadar-e-Millat Zindabad” at the Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum.
The FIR was reportedly filed against Safdar by a person named Waqas, a resident of Karachi’s Saadi Town.
It is expected that Safdar will be presented in court today.
The PML-N leader, earlier with Maryam Nawaz, chanted slogans of “Vote Ko Izzat Do” at Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum in Karachi which divided social media, with some saying he had violated the sanctity of the mazaar.
