Federal govt extends educational institutions closure to 11 April

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has extended the closure of public and private education institutions in Covid-hit districts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by April 11.

Speaking to media after chairing of meeting of the education committee, Mahmood said that in some districts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Covid-19 was spreading at an alarming level.

“The education institutions in the selected districts will remain closes by April 11,” he said.

The education minister, however, said that exams for Class 9 and 10 would be held as per schedule by the end of May.

He warned that all those schools found violating the government’s order regarding closure of campus study will be sealed.

The positivity ratio of the coronavirus in the country has exceeded 8% in the last few days and continues to be on the rise.

According to the NCOC data, the number of active cases was 17,352 on March 6 which reached 34,535 on Tuesday.

The minister had taken to Twitter a few days ago and had written: “All education/health ministers will meet Wednesday, March 24, at the NCOC to take a decision regarding opening or further closure of educational institutions,” the minister wrote.

“The health of students, teachers, [and staff is of] primary consideration.”
