Former Test cricketer Haroon Rasheed has been appointed as the new chief selector for the men’s cricket team. This development was announced by the PCB committee chairman Najam Sethi on Monday.
In a news conference, Najam Sethi said, “Following speculations, I finally confirm the appointment of Haroon Rasheed as the new chief selector.”
He added, “I want to congratulate Haroon Rashid and hope he will use his cricket knowledge, understanding and background while picking squads for the upcoming international assignments.”
The post was previously given to former skipper and all rounder Shahid Afridi after Mohammad Wasim was removed from this position. The PCB was keen to hire him long term however he refused.
Upon his appointment, Haroon Rasheed felt “honoured to have been entrusted with the responsibility” and is looking forward to take on this new role. He also said the “good communication” is the need of the hour as that will help the players “to deliver the desired results, work harder on their skills and remain motivated.”
Haroon Rasheed had previously served as national chief selector of the men’s cricket team from 2015 to 2016 as well. Haroon Rashid has also played 23 Tests and 12 ODIs between 1977 to 1983 for Pakistan.
