India reports staggering 53,476 new coronavirus infections over past 24 hours

REUTERS: India has reported over 53,000 new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours, as the third wave of the virus grips the country, along with the rest of the world.

India has 11.8 million COVID-19 cases, the third-highest amount behind the United States and Brazil.

The country reported 251 new deaths, taking the overall tally to 160,692, the data showed.
