ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police announced that it would arrange body-worn cameras for personnel deputed at police checkposts in the capital territory.
In a Twitter announcement on Monday, Islamabad police said that footage from these cameras will be connected to the Safe City system.
“20 cameras have been obtained to check their performance, resolution and results,” it said.
“In line with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, IG police Mohammad Amir Khan has taken this important step to introduce body cameras as part of police uniforms. It has been a longstanding demand of the police to arrange body cameras at checkposts,” a senior police official said.
The announcement comes a day after Federal Science Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that Islamabad police were ready to get body worn cameras.
“I had suggested a few years ago that video cameras should be part of police uniform so that their conversation at checkposts could be recorded and monitored,” Chaudhry recalled.
