ISPR rejects Senator Bizenjo’s allegations

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan army chief spokesman Maj-Gen Asif Ghafoor dismissed allegations by Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo that ISI was behind the opposition’s failure to deseat Senate chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.

“Remarks by Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo implicating head of national premier institution are unfounded. The tendency to bring entire democratic process into disrepute for petty political gains doesn’t serve democracy,” Asif Ghafoor tweeted.

His tweet came shortly after Bizenjo told a journalist that 14 senators who had ditched the opposition in a no-confidence vote against Sanjrani, were people of General Faiz, the ISI chief.

Bizenjo was opposition’s joint candidate for the next Senate chief.

Opposition was required to secure a minimum of 53 votes to remove Sanjrani but they fell short of three numbers. Surprisingly, 64 voted for the no-confidence resolution to be moved by show of hand.
