KARACHI: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was arrested on Monday on charges that he was working for Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
Special Investigation Unit (SIU) police and other intelligence bodies worked together to arrest ASI Shehzad Pervaiz from Gulistan-e-Jauhar in Karachi.
The arrested ASI— who is also a resident of Gulestan-e-Juahar — was stationed at the Shahrah-e-Faisal police station, the police officials said, adding that two hand grenades were also recovered from his possession, according to Geo News.
Police said that Pervaiz was a member of the Muttahida Quami Movement-London (MQM-L) outfit, the arm of the MQM notorious for its anti-state statements and support of MQM founder Altaf Hussain.
Pervaiz is also accused of being involved with groups in the city active in conducting target killings. However, further investigation in this matter is underway, police authorities notified.
