Lawyers attack Punjab Institute of Cardiology in Lahore

LAHORE: A large group of lawyers attacked a hospital in the city on Wednesday, which resulted in the death of one woman and several getting injured.

According to media reports, lawyers stormed the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) in the morning and vandalised public property, set fire to a police mobile and beat up doctors.

Following the attack, a woman died due to lack of medical attention, while several patients were forced out of the building to sit on footpaths.

As per the deceased woman’s son, his mother complained of pain, after which he tried to get hold of a doctor but the doctors went on a strike due to the attack.

Videos of the incident shared on Twitter showed police officials, clad in riot gear, were rendered helpless as a swarm of lawyers, outnumbering the law enforcement personnel, broke the entrance of the hospital.

A month earlier, a scuffle had broken out in the same hospital between lawyers and doctors when the former alleged that the latter had been negligent of a patient in the hospital.

Pictures and videos of the lawyers setting fire to vehicles and destroying public property were caught on mobile phones and shared on social media.
