Pakistani actress Mahira Khan gave her opinion on the upcoming Aurat March 2020, scheduled to be held in various cities across Pakistan on March 8, urging people to raise slogans and signs that call to attention real issues facing women rather than instigating someone.
She started off the note by stating that the reason she marched was to raise the voice for those who couldn’t and those women who didn’t enjoy the liberty she did since childhood.
“Can we then please be careful with the slogans and words we put out? Can we hold placards of the causes we are fighting for, the issues we want resolved, the basic rights and needs of those who suffer because they are either unaware of their rights or they are not given to them. Can we hold banners of laws we would like to be put into place and those that have harmed women over the years?” she said in a statement.
Mahira said that marchers should speak a language that the common man should understand. “We are a country getting used to the idea of equal rights, me too, times up. All of us, as those in positions of power and privilege should speak a language that a common man would understand. We don’t march for ourselves. We march for those who can not march for themselves,” she wrote.
Social media condemns TV playwright Khalil ur Rehman Qamar
Prominent writer Khalilur Rehman Qamar abused and swore at a woman on live TV on Tuesday, as social media went up in arms over the Mere Paas Tum Ho writer’s abusive rant.
Rehman was on a talkshow with activist Marvi Sirmed as well. Marvi, who was on the phone, interrupted Rehman when he was criticising the popular Aurat March slogan: “Mera Jism, Meri Marzi”.
“Don’t interrupt in between,” shouted Rehman.
“Mera Jism Meri Marzi,” shouted Marvi, again.
That led the two to exchange hot words as Rehman abused her and told her to shut up. The host of the show tried to intervene and silence Marvi but to no avail.
Social media went up in arms over the incident, calling out Rehman for abusing a woman and that too, on national TV
