LAHORE: One of the two suspects in the Lahore motorway rape case surrendered himself to police on Sunday, claiming that he was not involved in the incident.
Waqarul Hassan, whose picture went viral after Punjab Police tweeted it on Saturday as one of the two suspects who raped a woman in front of her children at the Lahore-Sialkot motorway on Thursday night, said that he was not involved in the heinous crime.
Waqar surrendered himself today at the Model Town police station on the pressure from his relatives and told the investigators that he was not involved in the motorway case. The other key suspect, Abid Ali, is still at large as police are conducting raids to arrest him.
He claimed that his brother-in-law, Abbas, was using his mobile phone.
“Abbas refused to surrender himself with me but he may do soon. He was involved in some criminal activities with Abid Ali and is still in contact with him,” Waqar reportedly told police.
Earlier, Chief Minister Usman Buzdar said that the provincial government had worked day and night to arrest the suspects.
“We worked day and night and launched a probe using scientific techniques. I personally monitored the progress and directed the completion of the probe expediently,” Buzdar had said.
