The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday arrested PML-N stalwart and former interior minister Ahsan Iqbal on corruption charges relating to the Narowal Sports City Complex case.
The former interior minister was arrested and will be presented in an accountability court on Tuesday. The NAB’s Rawalpindi chapter had summoned Iqbal in relation to the case today.
Iqbal has been arrested on charges that he embezzled money in the building of the Narowal Sports City Complex. The project was built at a staggering cost of Rs3,000 million by the PML-N government. Iqbal was then the minister for planning and development.
NAB started investigating the case in July 2018. Last month, an accountability team also visited the Narowal Sports City Complex to secure documents related to the case.
According to media reports, the arrest warrant for the PML-leader was signed by NAB Chairman Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal.
Talal Chaudhry slams decision to arrest Ahsan Iqbal
Senior PML-N leader Talal Chaudhry spoke to Geo News to share his views about Ahsan Iqbal’s arrest.
He alleged that the government is trying to control the opposition and arresting leaders through the NAB.
“Ahsan Iqbal knew he might be arrested, but he stood by his stance,” said Chaudhry, adding that there was a nexus ‘between Imran Khan and NAB’.
