The family of Noor Mukadam, who was allegedly murdered by Zahir Jaffer, has dispelled rumous that the victim’s friends are being treated as accomplices.
In a statement on Twitter, the family clarified the rumours circulating on social media regarding failure of friends to rescue Noor Mukadam from Jaffer’s house.
“There are many rumours regarding the role of the friends. As this clip clarifies, they interacted with Zahir the night before, upon the family’s request. Their role, throughout, has been to assist the family. They are not being treated as accomplices by the family or the police,” the family said.
“As this is an ongoing investigation, we are not at liberty to provide further details. We only request that people rely only on official accounts, and not on hearsay. It is a very sensitive time, and carelessness can have far-reaching consequences,” it added.
According to media reports, Zahir Jaffer, the prime accused, confessed to committing the crime.
A police officer close to the investigation told English daily Dawn that the accused made the confession during interrogation.
“A statement of Zahir Jaffer is being recorded and he will also be produced before a magistrate to record his statement under CrPC 164,” he said.
Police sources also revealed that the investigators had found footage from CCTV cameras installed in the neighbourhood.
