ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi on Wednesday said that “Pakistan had been gang-raped” by mafias after he was asked about the power sector corruption probe report.
Speaking to Geo News anchor Hamid Mir on his show Capital Talk, President Alvi said that he had read the report on the alleged corruption that had taken place in Pakistan.
“I am choosing harsh words and forgive me for it, but Pakistan has not been raped but gang-raped,” he said, referring to the corruption in billions of rupees that has allegedly taken place in the power sector.
During the interview, he said that Prime Minister Imran Khan was still against corruption as he had been since day one. “Unfortunately, there are some complexities of the system due to which he wasn’t able to take action,” he said. “However, about him I would say that his [Imran Khan’s] heart is in the right place,” added President Alvi.

He explained that if Prime Minister Imran Khan even got a whiff of corruption claims, he would not let it go until properly investigated. “In such a war, I’m with him,” he added.
Urging people to practice social distancing and pray at home during Ramazan, President Alvi said that anyone who violated the 20-point agreement with ulema would be committing a sin. He said the agreement with the religious scholars was Ijma-e-Ummat [consensus of the Muslim community] and that its violation would “be categorised as a sin”.
