Pakistan in talks with Pfizer and Astra Zeneca for Covid vaccine

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is reportedly in talks with world’s premier biopharmaceutical company Pfizer and Astra Zeneca to acquire Covid-19 vaccine.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, singer and artist Salman Ahmad quoted Prime Minister Imran Khan as saying that the vaccine will be given to Pakistanis free of cost.

According to reports, Pakistan has set aisde $100 million initially to purchase doses.

“PM ⁦Imran Khan ⁩ has decided that COVID vaccine will be given to Pakistanis free of cost after the acquisition of vaccine globally. The Pakistan govt is in the final stages of negotiations w/ Pfizer Moderna Astra Zeneca at the same time. Will be given on priority basis,” Salmam Ahmed tweeted after his meeting with the prime minister. 

The development came as Pakistan struggles to contain the second wave of the pandemic which has killed 7, 248 people since its emergence in the country.
The National Coordination and Operation Center on Thursday reported 2,547 cases, the highest single day increase since July 17. This takes the nationwide tally of infections to 365,927. It also recorded the death of 18 people in the last 24 hours.
