Pakistan records lowest number of virus deaths

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan recorded its lowest number of COVID-19 deaths in the past three months on Sunday  with only 20 people succumbing to the desease.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, Zafar Mirza, the prime minister’s adviser, said that the current statistics indicated an 87% drop in COVID-19 deaths.

“”Today, Alhamdolilah, we have the lowest number of deaths in Pakistan due to COVID-19 in last 3 months. We had a peak of 153 deaths on 20 June and in last 24 hours we had 20. This is 87% reduction in COVID-19 related deaths. Yet no place for any complacency!” he tweeted.

According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) 1,176 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in 24 hours.

Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic in terms of cases followed by Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

As of July 27, 118,311 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 92,073 in Punjab, 33,397 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 14,884 in Islamabad, 11,601 in Balochistan, 2,034 in Azad Kashmir and 1,989 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
