Pakistan reports 4,688 virus cases, 88 deaths

ISLAMABAD: The death toll from the coronavirus rose to 1,770 as another 82 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.

At least 4,688 people have been tested positive in the past 24 hours, according to latest figures released by the National Command and Operation Center on Friday morning. All in all, 85,464 people have contracted the virus in Pakistan.

Sindh remains the worst-hit province with 32,910 cases followed by Punjab which has recorded 31,104 cases.  Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 11, 373 positive cases, Balochistan has 5224, Gilgit Baltistan has 824 and AJk has 285 cases.

A total of more than 30,000 patients have recovered from the respiratory disease.

Overall, 20, 166 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours and of them 4,688came out positive.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr. Zafar Mirza has said the government is making efforts to control COVID-19 with available resources.

Talking to a private news channel, he expressed concerns over the increasing cases of the coronavirus with every passing day through local transmission.

Dr Zafar Mirza said for the first time 17,000 coronavirus tests were conducted in 24 hours.

He urged people to adopt preventive measures to combat the pandemic terming the care as the only solution to contain this pandemic.
