ISLAMABAD: The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan jumped to 18, 114 after the country registered its single biggest daily rise on Friday.
According to the National Command and Control Center, at least 1,275 have tested positive for the novel coronavirus includig 32 deaths in the last 24 hours.
It said that 9164 tests were conducted from across Pakistan on Friday and out of which 1275 were found to be infected. So far 4715 people have recovered from covid-19.
The province-wise break up of the total number of cases as of 8:01pm, May 1, is as follows:
Total confirmed cases: 18114
• Sindh: 6,675
• Punjab: 6,733
• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 2,799
• Balochistan: 1,136
• Islamabad Capital Territory: 343
• Gilgit-Baltistan: 340
• AJK: 66
Deaths: 408
This came a day after Asad Umar heading Pakistan’s command and control centre coordinating the government’s response to the coronavirus outbreak said that the situation is “not out of control.”
Meanwhile, at least 232,806 people globally have died from COVID-19 and 3,298,275 have been infected by the novel coronavirus that causes it, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December. The World Health Organization referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
Though the outbreak started in China, it has now reached 219 countries and territories. 180 of those have reported fatalities.
