As the third wave of the novel coronavirus intensifies, Pakistan reported over 5,000 cases of the novel coronavirus on Friday.
According to data from the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the total number of coronavirus cases across the country have soared to 678,165. The total number of active cases of the virus in the country are 56,347.
Over the past 24 hours, Pakistan reported 83 new deaths, taking the death tally to 14,613 across the country.
To curb the virus spread, National Command and Operation Centre has announced a complete ban on holding wedding functions — both indoor and outdoor — starting April 5, in areas that have a three-day rolling average of an 8% positivity ratio.
The NCOC had said that the government is also considering the prospects of more restrictions on inter-provincial travelling.
This is the first time in 9 months that Pakistan has reported over 5,000 infections of the novel virus.
