Pakistan to lift coronavirus lockdown in phases from May 9: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the country’s lockdown to contain the spread of the Coronavirus will be lifted in phases beginning from May 9.

Speaking to media after the National Coordination Committee on Thursday, PM Khan said this was being done because “people are suffering”.

According to the PM, public transport in Pakistan will remain shut as provinces had reservations.

“The success of the next phase depends on people following the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the government. We have set SOPs for everything,” Khan said.

He, however, warned that the government would be forced to re-impose the lockdown if people failed to follow the SOPs.
