Pakistan to ‘partially open’ airspace for international flights on Sunday

PM Imran says welcome to overseas Pakistanis after announcing resumption of int'l flights

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan announced on Saturday that the government will “partially open” its airspace for overseas Pakistanis tomorrow (Sunday) a couple of months after international flight operations were shunned in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taking to Twitter, the prime minister said that the international airspace was being opened to facilitate overseas Pakistani workers “who have suffered most in this pandemic but have shown great courage & made us proud”.

“Tomorrow we will partially open airspace for intl flights. This is being done specially to help our Overseas workers who have suffered most in this pandemic but have shown great courage & made us proud. We welcome you back home & our govt will facilitate you in every way,” he tweeted.

He appreciated the “philanthropic role” played by overseas Pakistanis during the COVID-19 outbreak.

“I appreciate the philanthropic role played by the Overseas Pakistani community in helping their brothers & sisters abroad during Covid19. There are many examples where the Pakistani community has been a source of inspiration, helping those around in need.”

It is important to mention here that all international flights will be operated with proper COVID-19 SOPs. International flight operations will remain suspended at Turbat and Gwadar airports.
