MULTAN: Opposition parties are set to demonstrate their political might in the central Pakistani city of Multan today (Monday) in their bid to oust Prime Minister Imran Khan and his party from power.
The rally being staged by the opposition alliance will take place at Multan’s Qilla Kohna Qasim Bagh.
PPP supporters will commence their rally from Gilani House and gather at Qasim Bagh where the PDM leaders are expected to make final speeches.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Maryam Nawaz, Yousuf Raza Gilani, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and others are scheduled to address the rally.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who tested positive for the Covid-19, will join the rally via video link.
On the other hand, the Punjab government and local administration had denied permission to the opposition parties for the meeting owing to increasing virus cases in the second wave of the COVID-19 in the country.
Earlier on Sunday, the Multan administration took control of Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh stadium again besides arresting various Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leaders and workers belonging to different political parties including Kasim Gillani, the son of ex-premier Yousaf Raza Gillani after they stormed into the venue by removing barriers.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief and head of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Maulana Fazlur Rahman on Sunday has said that rally in Multan will be held at any cost.
While addressing the media after chairing key session, the JUI-F chief alleged the incumbent government of committing state terrorism. PDM workers are being arrested in Multan to affect the rally, he added.
Fazlur Rehman said that people will arrive at the venue by crossing all the barriers placed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
