PDM set to hold anti-government rally in Quetta

QUETTA: The Pakistan Democratic Party (PDM) is set to flex its muscles with a rally in Quetta on Sunday as part of its campaign to oust Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf from power by year-end.

This will be the PDM’s third public gathering after massive rallies in Gujranwala and Karachi.

Former three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif is scheduled to address the PDM rally via video link from London.

PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif and PDM President Maulana Fazlur Rehman have also reached the capital of Balochistan province.

PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who is leading his party’s election campaign in Gilgit Baltistan, will also join the jalsa via video link.

ANP leader Asfand Yar Wali and PKMAP head Mahmood Khan Achakzai and other leaders will address the rally.

Meanwhile, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Balochistan regarding the security of the PDM rally, in which it was decided to impose Section-144 in the city as well as ban pillion riding on motorcycles for the day.

PTM MNA Mohsin Dawar was detained after landing in Quetta.

“Once again our rights r being violated by state above state. I’ve been detained at Quetta airport with @nadeem_askar I am told its because of security risks. Why are these risks limited to me only? We refuse to be silenced like this. We will not be intimidated,” Dawar tweeted before he was taken away.
