PM asks interior ministry to table anti-torture bill

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the Ministry of Interior to expedite the process of tabling anti-torture bill.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, PM Khan said that torture was unacceptable in a civilized democratic society.

“I have asked Interior Ministry to expedite tabling our anti torture bill in National Assembly. Torture is unacceptable in a civilised democratic society & goes against the spirit of Islam, our constitution & our international legal commitments,” Khan tweeted.

A day earlier, the prime minister ordered implementation of a Supreme Court ruling on the release of under-trial women prisoners.

“After a mtg with the ministry of human rights, Attorney General & Barrister Ali Zafar, I have asked for immediate implementation of SC order 299/2020 for release of Under Trial women prisoners & convicted women prisoners who fulfill criteria of SC Order,” Khan wrote on Twitter
“I have also asked for immediate reports on foreign women prisoners & women on death row for humanitarian consideration,” he said.
