Prime Minister Imran Khan has issued directives to his government to ensure the early repatriation of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.
The development comes a little over than a week after the opposition held its All Parties Conference on September 20 to lash out at the government and announce protests will be held from October.
During the APC, the former prime minister had lashed out at the government and the military establishment for meddling in the country’s affairs and issued a 26-point declaration that sought a resignation of PM Imran Khan and CPEC Chairman Asim Saleem Bajwa.
The decision to bring back Nawaz was taken in a meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by PM Imran Khan a day before an important hearing at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) regarding Nawaz Sharif’s petitions in the Al Azizia and Avenfield Properties references.
The IHC had asked the government to inform the court on the next hearing (today) about the process of execution of Nawaz Sharif’s arrest warrants through the UK foreign ministry.
In the light of PM Imran’s directions, the government tasked the FO and FIA with bringing Nawaz back and decided to write a fresh letter to the British government for the repatriation of the PML-N leader, who has been staying in London since November 2019.
