ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken a stern notice of incidents of rape involving a minor girl in Karachi and a mother of three in Lahore.
In the first incident, a five-year-old girl was burnt to death after being subjected to sexual assault at Essa Nagri in Karachi.
In a second incident, a mother of three was gang raped in front of her children on a motorway near Lahore after she ran out of petrol on her way to Gujranwala.
The two incidents sparked a national outrage amid calls for public hangings of the culprits.
“The protection of women is the first priority and responsibility of the government,” PM Khan said. “Such brutality and barbarity cannot be allowed in any civilized society.”
The PM continued: “such incidents are a violation of our social values and a disgrace to society.”
The prime minister also asked for report of these incidents from the concerned IGs.
He directed the police to bring those involved in the incidents to justice as soon as possible and punish them accordingly.
PM Khan further said that steps be taken to make laws more effective in preventing abuse of innocent children and women.
