Indian Prime Minister Narendra Singh Modi on Tuesday conveyed his best wishes for Prime Minister Imran Khan and Pakistanis in battling the challenges of the coronavirus.
In a letter addressed to the prime minister of Pakistan, Modi wished him well on the occasion of March 23. The letter was an important one since cordial exchanges between India and Pakistan have been scarce ever since tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations skyrocketed following the February 27 dogfight.
“Excellency,
On the occasion of the National Day of Pakistan, I extend greetings to the people of Pakistan_
As a neighbouring country, India desires cordial relations with the people of Pakistan. For this, an environment of trust, devoid of terror and hostility, is imperative,” read the letter.
“Excellency, at this difficult time for humanity, I would like to convey my best wishes to you and the people of Pakistan for dealing with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration,” wrote the Indian premier.
A few days ago, Pakistan army chief had signalled the country’s intent on moving forward in its relations with India when he said during an Islamabad National Security Dialogue event that “it is time to bury the past and move forward”.
