ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday congratulated President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on his re-election.
On his X account the prime minister further posted that he looked forward to working with him to further strengthen Pakistan-Russian relations.
President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday conveyed his heartiest felicitations to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on his victory in the Presidential elections.
“I am confident that relations between Pakistan and Russia will grow further under your dynamic leadership,” the president further posted on X account.
President Vladimir Putin extended his reign over Russia in a landslide election whose outcome was never in doubt. With all the precincts counted, election officials said Putin had secured a record number of votes, underlining his total control over the political system.
Russia’s Central Election Commission said Monday that with all the precincts counted, Putin got 87% of the vote. Central Election Commission chief Ella Pamfilova said that nearly 76 million voters cast their ballots for Putin.
Communist candidate Nikolai Kharitonov finished second with just under 4pc, newcomer Vladislav Davankov third, and ultra-nationalist Leonid Slutsky fourth, partial results suggested.
The outcome means Putin is set to embark on a new six-year term that will see him overtake Josef Stalin and become Russia’s longest-serving leader for more than 200 years if he completes it.
