Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described US President Donald Trump as a “genuine man of peace”, who has worked relentlessly and untiringly to end global conflicts, including the war in Gaza.
The prime minister was speaking during a press conference alongside the US president and other global leaders in resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, following the signing of the Gaza peace agreement.
PM Shehbaz said that the world was witnessing “one of the greatest days in contemporary history” and remarked that peace had been achieved after months of tireless diplomatic efforts led by President Trump, who has made the world “a place to live with peace and prosperity.”
“I would like to salute you for your exemplary and visionary leadership. I truly believe you are the man, the world needed the most at this crucial time. The world will always remember you as the man who went above and beyond, who stopped seven, and today, eight wars.
“I would also like to thank my very dear brother Sheikh Tamim, who has worked tirelessly, along with others, to achieve peace in this region. My dear brothers, President Tayyip Erdoğan, His Majesty King Abdullah, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed of the UAE, and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, have all played an instrumental role and made valuable contributions to this remarkable peace process.
“India and Pakistan are both nuclear powers, had he not intervened along with his wonderful team during those critical four days, the war could have escalated beyond imagination. Who would have lived to tell what happened? Similarly, here in the Middle East, Mr President, your valuable contribution, along with President El-Sisi, will be remembered by history in golden words.”
He further said Pakistan will once again nominate US President Donald Trump again for the Nobel Peace Prize for ensuring peace in South Asia and the Gaza deal.
“Today is one of the greatest days in contemporary history, as peace has been achieved after the untiring efforts led by President Donald Trump, a true man of peace who worked relentlessly, day and night, to make this world a place of harmony and prosperity.
“Pakistan had earlier nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his extraordinary efforts to stop war between India and Pakistan and achieve a ceasefire. Today, once again, I wish to nominate this great leader for the Nobel Peace Prize, as he has brought peace to South Asia, saved millions of lives, and today here in Sharm El-Sheikh, played a pivotal role in achieving peace in Gaza, safeguarding countless lives across the Middle East.”
The US president welcome the remarks and said that he did not expect such high praise for his efforts towards peace in the region. Before welcoming the premier to speak, he had thanked the prime minister for his cooperation and said that his “favourite” Field Marshal Asim Munir was not present.
The press conference was held after the US president signed a document on the Gaza ceasefire deal with mediators Egypt, Qatar, and Turkiye. Ahead of the signing, Hamas freed the last living Israeli hostages from Gaza under the deal, and Israel sent home busloads of Palestinian detainees.
