PM takes a swipe at PDM over Peshawar protest

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday took a shot at opposition parties on the eve of their anti-governmental rally in Peshawar.

“The same PDM mbrs who had wanted a strict lockdown and criticised me earlier now playing reckless politics with people’s safety. They are even defying court orders & holding a jalsa when cases are rising dramatically,” PM Khan tweeted.

Khan’s message came as Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an alliance of several opposition parties, prepares to hold a rally in the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where PTI is in power.

The PM was responding to a tweet posted by his cabinet’s member Asad Umar, who claimed that there was high virus positivity rate in Peshawar.

“Peshawar covid positivity ratio 13.39% yesterday. Patients in critical care: 202. Of these 50 on low flow oxygen, 134 on high flow and 18 on ventilators. 14 new critical patients just yesterday. PDM response : we will be safe on the stage so who cares what happens to citizens,” Umar tweeted.

Imran Khan had drawn criticism from civil society and opposition parties after ordering the lifting of lockdown during the first wave of the pandemic.
