Portland protesters burn flags on tense US election night

Portland, United States: Protesters lit US flags and marched through Portland armed with protest songs and assault rifles as the confusing election night unfolded without high tension but violence in the northwestern city.

The liberal enclave in the state of Oregon caused possible armed skirmishes after months of divisive rallies involving left-wing activists, right-wing militias, and federal officials deployed by the Trump administration.

As President Donald Trump claimed he won the US election on Wednesday morning, despite counting ballots still in major states, activists gathered outside Portland’s federal courtyard – the epicenter of summer’s horrifying anti-racism.

A 20-year-old defender said, “We don’t like any candidate – I voted Biden out of shame – but if Trump is going to get people crazy for another four years,” American flags were waved in front of the building.

Many people in the courtyard shouted slogans against Trump as well as Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, a bogey man for the anti-police protesters who won re-election on Tuesday, while others danced and louder than hip- Gave hop music.

The FBI has predicted armed clashes in Portland involving the election, but there were no signs of election night activity from right-wing groups such as the Proud Boys.

And police had not engaged with protesters until the early hours of Wednesday, some of whom participated in the peaceful 400-strong Black Lives Matter march around East Portland.

The three-hour march was led by a convoy, in which at least half a dozen protesters were armed with assault rifles, knives and a gun. Rumors and reports of changes in national and state races still circulate in the markers.

“I heard Trump now has the momentum,” said 20-year-old protest leader Ty Ford. “It’s going to be a riot. Whenever it unfolds, it’s going to be crazy.”

Fellow leader “DD” said, “It’s like choosing between two evils but honestly we will compromise with Biden.”

Demanding the abolition of the ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to bring justice to black victims of police violence, including George Floyd and Bryo Taylor, with the rendering of “Hallelujah” before March.

Opposition leaders incited the people watching the march from the windows of their apartments to attend the rally as Levitt had a few moments.

“Hey, get your head out the window, tell us how the election is going – and then maybe slip on your shoes and help us start a revolution,” shouted one worker.
