LAHORE: In a shocking development on Tuesday, the Government of Punjab transferred former Punjab IG Shoaib Dastagir and appointed Inam Ghani in his stead, after the former allegedly got into a row with Lahore CCPO Umar Sheikh.
The development comes after Prime Minister Imran Khan, in consultation with Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar, approved Dastagir’s removal from the post, sources told Geo News..
Media reports in Geo.tv and Dawn.com stated that Dastagir had a falling out with the Lahore CCPO after it came to the former’s knowledge that the latter had passed unsavoury remarks about his remarks. When Dastagir got to know about the development, he got angry and sought Sheikh’s transfer.
Umar Sheikh will continue as Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO). Dastagir’s removal is the sixth time the post of IGP Punjab has seen a reshuffling.
The much-debated controversy came to a head today with a meeting of the Police Service of Pakistan Chapter where Sheikh offered to tender an unconditional apology to Dastagir.
Punjab CM Buzdar summoned Dastagir and heard his reservations. Dastagir reportedly told him that Sheikh had spoken to officials and told them not to obey Dastagir’s command.
