LAHORE: Noted cricket commentator and former cricketer Ramiz Raja has called for the government to pass legislation to combat the scourge of match fixing.
His demand came shortly after Pakistan Cricket Board banned Umar Akmal from all cricket for three years of charges of corruption. The middle-order batsman had been accused of failing to report multiple corrupt approaches.
A tribunal set by the cricket board announced its verdict on Monday.
Responding to the PCB’s decision, Ramiz Raja said that there should be jail term for players who are found guilty of corruption.
“So Umar Akmal officially makes it to the list of idiots! Banned for 3 years. What a waste of a talent! It’s high time that Pakistan moved towards passing a legislative law against match fixing. Behind bars is where such jack asses belong! Otherwise brave for more!!” Raja tweeted.
