Former Skipper of Pakistan Sarfaraz Ahmed is back to playing Test cricket after 2009. He is a part of the squad of the ongoing Pakistan versus New Zealand Test series. The wicketkeeper batsman proved his selection to be a good decision when he scored a half century against New Zealand in the first innings of the match.
The addition of the player came as a surprise to many. He was selected in the team after an overhaul at the PCB where the PCB chairman Ramiz Raja and the entire selection team led by Mohammad Wasim was removed from their positions.
Shahid Afridi, the new chief selector for the ongoing series, had chosen Sarfaraz Ahmed and given him precedence over Mohammad Rizwan in the squad. The experienced batsman rose to the occasion and gave the team the stability it needed after losing early wickets.
Post the first day, Shahid Afridi tweeted, “Sarfaraz proved his selection right, excellent performance for him under pressure.”
When Sarfaraz Ahmed was questioned about his comeback he said, “I was nervous, my heartbeat was really fast, so I took my time to relax. Babar gave me immense confidence during this time.”
He also mentioned about Shahid Afridi encouraging him for his comeback, “I spoke to Shahid Afridi last night before going to bed. He motivated me a lot,” he said.
The wicket-keeper batter had an excellent partnership of 196 runs with captain Babar Azam before getting dismissed.
