ISLAMABAD: Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood has dispelled rumours that the government was going to close schools to curb the second wave of the Coronavirus.
Taking to Twitter on Monday, Shafqat Mahmood said that the government was closely monitoring the developing situation in the country.
“Rumours again afloat regarding school closures. It is again clarified that educational institutions are NOT being closed. We will continue to monitor the situation as health of the students, teachers and staff is very important but at the moment no such decision has been made,” he tweeted.

Earlier in the day, Asad Umar said that the government would take urgent measures to slow the spread of the disease.
“NCOC discussed additional measures today to control the rising spread of Covid19. Recommendations will be tabled in the NCC being called for tomorrow. Need to take immediate measures which have the most impact on disease spread without curtailing economic activity,” Umar said.
The National Command and Operation Center, which monitors the virus situation on a daily basis,, recorded more than 1100 new cases in the last 24 hours.
It also reported the death of a dozen people due to the pandemic.
