Shoaib Akhtar responds to Tafazzul Rizvi’s legal notice

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar has responded to a legal notice sent to him by Pakistan Cricket Board’s legal advisor Tafazzul Rizvi.

“I’ve received a notice from Tafazzul Rizvi which is based on lies & fabrications. I’ve engaged Mr @SalmanKNiazi1 as my lawyer to send befitting legal reply on my behalf to said notice. I stand by my words regarding incompetence & unsatisfactory performance of Mr. Rizvi,” Akhtar tweeted.

In a TV interview later, Akhtar denied disrespecting the lawyers community.

“My detailed statement .I have immense respect for the lawyers community. In the past i have supported lawyers movement. In this particular instance, I have talked about one particular lawyer and i stand by my statement about him.I have a right to give an opinion about incompetence,” he added.

His response came a day after he was served with a legal notice from Mr Rizvi.

In a statement on April 29, PCB said that it was disappointed with Shoaib Akhtar’s poor choice of words while publically commenting about the PCB’s legal department and its legal advisor.
“The language used by Shoaib Akhtar was highly inappropriate and disrespectful, and cannot be condoned in any civilised society. The PCB’s legal advisor, Mr Taffazul Rizvi, in his own discretion, has initiated defamation and criminal proceedings against Shoaib Akhtar, while the PCB too reserves its rights,” it added.
