Sindh IG Mushtaq Mahar deferred his leave and ordered other senior police officials to set aside their leave applications as well, a few hours after army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday ordered the Karachi Corps Commander to hold an impartial inquiry into Captain (retired) Safdar’s arrest.
The Sindh Police Digital Media posted a couple of tweets, adding that the incident had “caused great heartache and resentment within all ranks of Sindh Police.”

However, the police forced announced that the IG had taken back his leave request and had ordered others to do the same pending the conclusion of the inquiry.
“As a result, IG Sindh decided to proceed on leave and subsequently all ranks decided that they would also apply for leave to protest the humiliation meted out to Sindh police. This was a spontaneous and heartfelt reaction and made on an individual rather than a collective basis,” tweeted Sindh Police.
The police force thanked COAS Gen Bajwa for ordering an inquiry into the matter and thanked PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for supporting the provincial police in its time of need.
