Social media slams Shehbaz Sharif for insensitive comment on Lahore motorway

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif shocked the nation on Monday night when he made a callous and insensitive remark on the floor of the National Assembly, giving credit for former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and the PML-N team for building the motorway where the gruesome rape occurred.

The PML-N leader was addressing the parliament when he launched into a tirade against the PTI government and slammed it for not doing enough. Shehbaz said that “it has become a style of this prime minister that whenever the nation feels insecure, he goes silent” for not speaking up after the Lahore motorway rape incident.

However, it was when he gave credit to former PM and his brother Nawaz Sharif for building the motorway where the rape had taken place that social media slammed the former Punjab chief minister for showing insensitivity over the matter.

“At a time, the women need allies among men to push for reforms that ensure their protection, this happened in NA. Young MNA @MuradSaeedPTI took responsibility of Motorway incident being a man while seasoned Shehbaz Sharif boasted about the motorway itself,” tweeted the PTI.

I am very surprised by the speech of Shehbaz Sharif. His speech was inappropriate and unethical. He kept repeating how NS had built motorways and deployed police. He forgot how he turned off the mic of Zainab’s father in a press conference during his tenure. Shame

While @MuradSaeedPTI says “I take responsibility for this incident as a man”, Shehbaz Sharif had the gall to say that the motorway where the incident happened was also “Alhamdulillah, made by Mian Nawaz Sharif”.
